There is 1 large, and several small, shops selling fresh fruit and vegetables. salad stuff, herbs, potatos, carrots, onions, garlic, ginger etc. The larger shop also has frozen chicken (legs, wings, breast, whole) and pork.
All the grocery shops open early and close around dusk, 7 days a week, the quality of produce is usually excelent, and prices are at local rates.
There are 4-5 general stores that collectively sell just about anything you want! toilet rolls, pasta, canned fruit, candles, eggs, charcoal, fruit juice, flour, sugar, tea & coffee, cookies and snacks, booze, LPG, etc. Most of these stores are open from early to around 10pm (1 shop 11pm) 7 days a week.
There are 2 seafood shops that sell whatever the catch has been. Best time to visit is mid-late afternoon. You can normally get squid and prawns, along with lots of different kinds of fish. Prices are very reasonable in the ‘low’ season but get a bit inflated in the ‘high’ season due to the restaurant demand.
There are 2 hardware stores that have basic household stuff, fishing stuff, and a few odds and ends for boats. LMS can get you pretty much anything you need for the boat via Phuketsail’s online chandlery with delivery in 1-2 days.
Nearly every house on the main street is also a shop! so have a walk around and you’ll find everything from the beautiful to the bizzar!
There is a service station on the outskirts of the village with everything you need. If you need larger quantities, contact LMS office for help.
Drinking water and Ice are available at many places in the village, from 6am to around 10pm. If you want larger quantities, LMS can arrange delivery to the end of the pier. (mornings only)
There’s a good market every Sunday afternoon with everything you would expect. It’s a great atmosphere with all the locals strolling around. The market is on a large area of land, so it’s not too cramped and it’s firm underfoot too! Even if you don’t want to buy anything, you should still try to visit this authentic Thai tradition.
Most of the general stores have basic first aid stuff and a handful of remedies for common ailments. The store next to Fresh Restaurant has the best stock. There is also a ‘clinic’ with a bit more variety but it has odd opening hours (usually in the evening, sometimes, maybe…)
For more serious stuff, Lanta Hospital is located just outside the town (about 2km). Contact Us to arrange transport.
So What’s Missing?
Dairy! you can get yoghurt, and UHT milk but that’s about it! if you want butter, real milk, cheese, bacon, sausage, steaks, and other ‘nice’ stuff, you’ll have to go to Saladan at the north end of the island. This requires transportation so it will add quite a lot to your shopping bill but if you’re staying a while, you can give us your list and we’ll pick it up at the next opportunity.
Shopping Service:
If you’ve left your boat with us and want us to provision it for you before your return, we can. We charge a flat rate for this service – 1,000 baht. This covers shopping anywhere on the island, and delivery to your boat.
